Psychology

TBI Health’s psychology team sees psychological and physical wellbeing as more than the absence of illness.

Thriving is also about connecting to what is meaningful and having the tools and strategies to tackle life’s challenges.

Our team commonly works with physical conditions, such as persistent pain, and injuries, and they can also offer you tools for emotional difficulties, such as depression and anxiety. We work with you, as a team, to improve your well-being by giving you the tools and strategies.

Our Services

Our Psychology Services can offer comprehensive assessment services (such as Mental Injury Assessments and Neuropsychology Assessments) and tailored treatment services. For more information about our comprehensive assessments, please view our information sheets.

When we work with you in treatment, we aim to help you address some of your difficulties. We do this by:

  • Completing a holistic assessment, getting to know you as a person, what your strengths are, and identifying key areas affecting your goals and values;
  • Working with you as a team to create a plan to get you closer to your goals;
  • Building on your strengths and resources to empower you to make the changes that will help in the long run; and
  • Providing education, tools and strategies that you can take home to change your situation.

A Holistic Approach

Inspired by the Te Whare Tapa Wha model, our psychology team views wellbeing like a whare (house) with four walls. These walls are your physical body (taha tinana), mental and emotional wellbeing (taha hinengaro), spiritual wellbeing (taha wairua) and social wellbeing (taha whānau). Our health and wellbeing is represented by the whole whare, not just one part. This is why our team sees you as a whole person and our approach is guided by this. We want to get you know you and the things that are important to help you tackle your goals.
