Do you live in the Waikato, Manawatu, Lower Hutt, Porirua or Nelson-Marlborough region and suffer from low back pain?

TBI Health understand that living with low back pain can prevent you from doing the things you love to do. With support from the Ministry of Health and regional DHBs, TBI Health has been selected to deliver a subsidised rehabilitation service for people with ongoing back pain called (Back Pain Mobility Action Programme (Back Pain MAP)).

The Back Pain MAP will give you the tools to help you manage your back pain in the future. And we will help you get started with a long term exercise plan so that you can stay active, and keep on top of the problem.

What does the Back Pain MAP consist of?

You’ll receive an assessment with one of our specially trained Physiotherapists. If you qualify for the Back Pain MAP, you’ll work through a series of educational modules and exercise sessions to help you understand your condition and better manage the problem in the future.

The service is provided by a team of health professionals including:

  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Psychologists

How long does each programme take to complete?

The Back Pain MAP runs for approximately 6 weeks. On completion, you will be helped to integrate into support services that are currently available within the community.

Who can access the MAP?

Our Back Pain MAP is only available for patients living in the Waikato, Manawatu, Lower Hutt, Porirua or Nelson-Marlborough regions that are not eligible for ACC funded treatment. If you live outside these regions and/or have an ACC claim for your back injury, we still may be able to help. Please contact your local  TBI Health clinic to discuss your situation.

How much does it cost?

Our Back Pain MAP is subsidised by the Ministry of Health and District Health Boards. Depending on your circumstances, our co-payments for the programme will range from $0 – $15 a consultation. We can discuss and confirm co-payments with you (if any) before you start.
